EDITORIAL: ADVENTISM, A HUNDRED YEARS LATER

In June, 2004 we’ll commemorate the official entrance of Adventist missionaries to our country.

Other Christian churches had begun their evangelistic work a hundred years before among Cubans, immigrants and their descendants. Would be necessary another Christian religion in a society already considered as a “believer?

Yes, because Cuban religious were accommodate to human rules, so the Adventism taught them that being a Christian is the same to being a soldier: to give a spiritual battle against opposition.

Yes, because Adventism showed that the real truth of God is on the Bible, our only rule of faith and behavior magnifying the principle of “sola scriptura”.

Because the inclination of religious leaders is becoming into caudillos in whom people blindly believe. Adventism showed that even the faith in God is not blind and any demand to the human obedience is subjected to God.

Why do Cubans need the Adventism?

We need it because Cubans like to enjoy the immediate things risking mediate ones, so Adventism teaches that there are something more transcendent in life than food, drinking, jewels and sex: it is the soon meeting with our God.

Our wise God knew that many Cubans would accept Evolution Theory and its versions as a religion, so Adventism were given as a reminder that there is one day, to celebrate the creation’s work of God: The Sabbath.

Does Adventism has any positive thing to provide our rich Cuban nationality?

Yes it does because in the searching of novelties, a new style, a desire of changes, has been impregnated of instability, inexactitude and inefficacy the human will.

So Adventism offers a compensation: you can be faithful and loyal to God’s Word at the same time being modern and actual, you can live on this age with one faith, one hope and one truly eternal salvation.

Much have cost these hundred years but what would be Cuba without Adventism? Next century will celebrate it on heaven.
