INVASION FROM ABOVE

John 1:1,14 and Revelation 19:13

By Evangelist Bob Thrower

"In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." John 1:1

"And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." John 1:14

"And he (Jesus) was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called THE WORD OF GOD." Revelation 19:13

The Lord Jesus Christ is called the Word of God and He came down to earth as the Son of God. He came down for the purpose of redeeming us from sin and destruction. His coming to Earth was an invasion. That is our sermon for this time. Now, the history of the world throughout all ages could be written around the invasions of strong countries (armies) going into other countries to defeat and overcome them.

    1. INVASION

Think of God’s invasion into Egypt at the time when Pharaoh was beating up on God’s people, the Israelites. Israel was was in bondage and held as slaves. But God invaded Egypt and set His people free. Moses went down into Egypt with God’s power and protection. That was a great invasion.

"And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my People which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows: and I AM COME DOWN to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey;…" Exodus 3:7-8

When Pharaoh’ yokes were heavy upon the necks of tens of thousands of God’s people working in Egypt as slaves, God stepped into Egypt’s land. Friends, that was a great and tremendous invasion: an invasion from above.

    1. Alexander, the Great led mighty armies and invaded and Conquered a number of countries. Alexander, the Great Spread Greek culture to the East after the death Mohammed.
    2. Think of Napoleon’s invasion of Palestine when, in Nazareth, where Jesus was a carpenter, working in His Dad’s carpenter shop.
    3. Let us give thought to Hitler’s invasion of Holland, France and Poland. Hitler rolled his war tanks and marched his armies through a number of countries and started World War II.

These invasions and many others which history records were invasions that changed the courses of empires and altered the boundary lines of many nations.

But the greatest of all invasions ever recorded by the pen of man was God’s invasion of the Planet, some two thousand years ago when a quiet and humble man named Joseph, leading a donkey upon which sat a woman heavy with child, came into the little town of Bethlehem.

It was the time of taxation when God’s invasion came to Bethlehem and Earth. The Holy Scriptures tell us.

"Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David…To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife being great with child."

Luke 2:4-5

JESUS HAS COME: This was the greatest invasion and it came about through the VIRGIN BIRTH. Mary, the Virgin (chosen, elected, picked out by God and ordained before the foundation of the World) was the mother of a Son – and the Son, just as old as God the Father and ages older than His mother, was the Maker of His mother.

WHY AND HOW JESUS CAME…a good word study would be for all of us to go through the Scriptures and see how many times the Word "COME" is used in reference to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." Matthew 5:17 "But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:13

"I am come in my Father’s name." John 5:43

"For judgment I am come." John 9:39

"I am come a light into the world." John 12:46

God made this invasion when the Jewish people were asleep. Rome lay still and Athens was drunk with the wine of skepticism. In the hour of moral lethargy and intellectual skepticism, the greatest invasion the world has known was brought about in God’s time table and heaven invaded Earth.

    1. INCARNATION
    2. Now, friends, this is very important. The Son of God came in the form of a baby. Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem. God was making His invasion of the World.

"God was manifest in the flesh." I Timothy 3:16

"The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us." John 1:14 and here is what happened, Christ stepped out of the Prophecies of the Old Testament and the Word became flesh and the flesh became living life. That is the supernatural birth of the Saviour.

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men" John 1:4

Christ, "who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God, "stepped out of the form of God to take on the form of a servant." Philippians 2:6 The "Father of eternity" became the "Infant of days" Micah 5:2, Matthew 1:25. In Christ, God was made flesh – and God was "clothed with honour and majesty" was wrapped in swaddling clothes

Psalm 104:1 and Luke 2:12. What Christ was, God is – through all space, through all time, to everyone, everywhere.

Mary held her first-born on her lap, a woman held God on her lap.

And this One who upholds all things by the word of his power," was upheld in the arms of Mary and Simeon (Hebrews 1:3; Luke 2:27,28).

I read these words from the great Dr. Robert L. Moyer: "The Babe born in a stable was One greater than Abraham – because Abraham had an imputed righteousness, while the Babe had an inherent holiness" (Genesis 15:6; Luke 1:35). He was greater than Jacob – because while Jacob could give a well, Christ above could give living water (John 4). He was greater than Moses – because while Moses gave the Law, Christ above kept the Law. He was greater than Solomon – because while Solomon was a wise man, the wise men from the East worshipped the Babe (I Kings 4:30; Matthew 2:11).

The Christ, "made of the seed of David according to the flesh," is the same One who said then and says now: "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14:9) and "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30).

And the invasion of God brought about by the incarnation of God, causes us to think upon—

    3. HERE IS THE INTEGRITY OF THE SCRIPTURES

We see it in Micah 5:2 "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been of old, from everlasting."

There was the place of His birth – as to the town and the land. Not one promise that God had spoken was broken. "There the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14.

Now, friends, here is a profound truth that goes all the way back to the book of Genesis. Adam sinned willfully. Adam and Eve sinned because they wanted to sin, because they desired to sin. And if Jesus had been born of a human father, He would have had the same tendency to sin that every other person has.

The Virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ holds true. If we deny the Virgin birth, we deny Bible Christianity, smite the mother of our Saviour with shame, snatch the crown of deity from Jesus’ brow, strip Him of His sinless humanity, make the cross a blood stained failure, and bids us to face eternity with no light in the darkness.

JESUS WAS VIRGIN BORN: The resurrection of Jesus is unthinkable without the supernatural birth. Everything in God’s Word stands or falls on the matter, the way Jesus came into this world.

Yes, Jesus was Virgin born. Chosen by God, the Virgin Mary gave birth to our Saviour. That is true according to the Scriptures.

    1. If not, we have no Saviour.
    2. If not, we have no integrity of the Scriptures.
    3. If not, we have no credibility of the Scriptures.
    4. If not, we have no reliability of the Scriptures.
    5. If Christ was born of man and not of God, Calvary has no meaning; the four Gospels are not good news at all, but rather a mass of falsehood and errors.
    6. If Christ was born of man and not of God, the death of Jesus at Mount Calvary is the greatest blunder and mistake the Universe has ever witnessed. God makes no mistakes and knows no failures. Jesus’ invasion into Planet Earth is real, His Virgin birth is a reality and His death, burial and glorious resurrection are all realities. We can stand on the Virgin birth and we can trust His atonement for sin.
    1. INTERROGATIONS - Luke 1:26-35
    1. MARY: "And the Virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:…"
    2. Wise Men From the East: Matthew 2:1-2, "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judean the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."
    3. KING HEROD: Hearing these things Herod was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. With fear in his heart and a frown on his face, He made inquiry.
    4. Matthew 2:7-8 "Then Herod, when he had privily called called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also."

Where is Jesus today—as to our placement of Him who will dwell with all who are of a humble and contrite heart? Is He given honorable place in our schools? Is He given prominent place in the parliaments of men? Is He given rightful place in the business world? Is He given place in the United Nations Organization? Is He given place in our political life? Is He given place in our social life? Where is He in our homes? In the attic? Or cellar?

As foolish as engineers who have no room for electric power, the library with no place for books, the body with no place for blood, or lungs with no place for air are they who have no room for Jesus.

Have we said to him: "Oh, come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for Thee"?

Think now of God’s invasion as it causes us to remember.

MY JESUS, I LOVE THEE

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine:

For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;

My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou;

If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.
