What And If

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:44-45

If God refused the sunshine bright,
As people have their candle hid;
Yea, if the Lord should hide His light,
As you or I perchance once did,

If He refused the rain and dew,
To those indifferent to the cross,
And loved you as, and neighbor too,
When you have felt some minor loss,

And if His candle burned real low,
Nor gave its bright nor cheery glow,
And if He’d never loved you so,
What would you, give, His love to know?
