INTRODUCTION:
The
work of the Seventh-day Adventist began in BERMUDA in the early 1890's.
Around 1895, the first Bermudian converts, R.T. Munroe and family, along
with Marshall Enoch, a Canadian who migrated to Bermuda began holding weekly
services in the Monroes' home.
MIDDLETOWN
CHURCH:
In
1901, the first SDA minister sent to BERMUDA, J.W. Bartlett, organized
a company in Hamilton. During the pastorate of J.A. Morrow (1903-1909)
the first little church in Middletown, Pembroke was organized. The church
was dedicated in 1909.
ORIGINAL
KING STREET CHURCH:
The
spirit of evangelism was vibrant. As the membership increased, the need
for a larger Church became increasingly pressing. A much larger edifice
was erected on King Street, Hamilton. This church was dedicated in 1949.
PRESENT
KING STREET CHURCH:
Inevitably
time takes its toll; buildings become old and inadequate and tend to loose
their appeal. It was decided to build a more serviceable edifice on the
King Street site, and on October 1, 1989 the bulldozer rolled on to the
site and the former building was ingloriously razed to the ground. The
present structure (see picture above) was officially opened in November
1993.
SUMMARY:
As
in Jerubbabel's day,"the glory of this latter house [is] greater than that
of the former." Haggai 2:9. May this beautiful edifice ever be a beacon
light leading souls to Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. May worship
in this church be a prelude to the time when the people of God will worship
in,"the heavenly sanctuary not built with hands, eternal in the heavens,"
2 Corinthians 1: , where all is perfect harmony, joy, peace and love.
