A FAMILY CHRISTMAS PROJECT - VIDEO PROJECTOR SYSTEM
DONATED FOR USE BY VILLAGES OF GUYANA'S INTERIOR

January 13, 1998

Just before Christmas, some family friends of ours contacted us requesting several mission project ideas. They told us how their family and nearby relatives had chosen not to give each other Christmas presents. Each year, instead of spending the money on each other, they would pool their funds to invest in

a family mission project. The family as a whole would look at the different mission project ideas and would together select the project of choice. I had never heard of such a custom, but was very pleasantly surprised at the sacrificial but surely joyful practice of our friends.

I sent them two project proposals involving some urgent needs :
1) Purchase of a video projector and/or VCR and/or generator for use in the small jungle villages
2) Purchase of a chain saw for use in construction of the new Davis Indian Industrial College

The family discussed all the project proposals they had received from different sources and finally decided on the purchase of a video projector. What thrilling news that was. The estimate I gave them was only for the approximate cost of a video projector. However, after the family put together all their funds, there was sufficient to purchase not only the projector, but also a generator and a VCR. Their home church of Fresno collected the funds and sent them to me for the purchase of the equipment. What a thrill that was. I have already purchased the Projector and am hand-carrying it to Guyana. I will purchase the VCR there. The generator has also already been purchased and will be shipped down by other means.

You can imagine what it means to a village never having had electricity to receive video presentations. Every living soul within walking distance makes sure not to miss a single one. Some villages will receive presentations on health and family life. Others will be able to enjoy the full 5-week series of Net 95, maybe even Net 98. A wide variety of good video material is so valuable to meet the needs of each village. We are always on the lookout for good videos. If you have any good ideas or videos we could use, kindly let us know.

Please pray that God will specially bless the use of this video equipment in bringing God's love to those who sit in darkness.
