Residents of Paruima have been working hard to complete the new school building in time for the arrival of their new teachers in January. Though everyone knew that no teachers had yet volunteered, they continued building, trusting God to provide, and indeed God has rewarded their faith.

In October of 1997, while teaching a 2-week class in Trinidad at Caribbean Union College (CUC), David Gates was approached by two French couples from the country of Guadaloupe. After hearing reports of God's work in Guyana, and of the need for teachers for Paruima, the Gotin and Mathieu families turned in the volunteer missionary application forms. They discussed with David their desire to serve God as volunteer teachers in Paruima. After much prayer, both couples felt convicted that they had been called to accept the challenge.

After completing English as a Second Language (ESL) training at CUC in December, they returned to Guadaloupe to make preparations for their term of service. They returned to Trinidad in early January to await transportation to Guyana. On January 21 and 22, both families were transported

to Guyana in a small Trinidadian aircraft by Mr. Gates. They were thrilled as the jungles of Guyana came into view when the aircraft reached the South American coastline enroute to Georgetown. Their eyes opened in amazement at the winding jungle rivers lined with small villages, and at the very wide Esequibo river which divides Guyana into East and West.

In addition to these two couples, a capable young Guyanese CUC business student by the name of Martin Constantine (see Frontline News) will be returning to help direct the development of the new school work, and to assist the new teachers with their needs as they settle in and get used to their new environment.

Each of these volunteers has made the decision to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" and are confident that all their needs "will be added unto them". Please pray that God will richly bless and provide for these able young people whom He has called to pioneer the educational work among our Amerinidan brethren deep in the isolated regions of Western Guyana.
