he use of time these days is a study unto itelf. We have those who specialize in time management and give seminars on the effective use of time. But, what is time? To the athiest, it is something to be used in the "here and now". To the Christian, it is more than that. For those who believe in a Creator God, time means we owe our lives and talents to the One who created us. Someone wisely said that time is just the space between two eternities. Unfallen angels do not wear watches. They have no concept of time as we know it. For us, bound by time and space on this earth, time sometimes becomes a tyrant. No matter what we do, there isn't enough time for an imaginative, creative person to do all they want to do in this life.

t is interesting that so many people spend their time trying to rationalize God out of existence. Creation, they say, is a spntaneous act that happened eons ago without the aid of the Divine. We somehow happened to come along in this universe and they make evolution their god. Recent history is filled with failed attempts to prove that man's ancestors were half man-half monkey. Take a look at the following list of attempts to prove evolution:

No Debate in the Bible Regarding Creation

t is interesting that in the Bible there is no debate over creation. In fact, as though to forever silence the skeptics, the Bible starts out by saying "In the beginning, the Lord made the heaven and the earth. Gen 1:1." There is no room for questioning in the Bible. The evolutionist is silenced before God. The Bible is very specific about the creative power of God. There are roughly 45 references to the word "create" in Scripture and they are very clear about God's creative power. To see the list of references CLICK HERE In fact, one of the ten commandments even mentions God as a Creator.

Exodus 20:8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

hilosophers and theologians write about time; about how it is squandered, wasted, frittered away, etc. Poems have been written about time.

God as Creator

Now, what about this idea that we need to acknowledge the Lord simply because He created us? It is simply living out what the Lord impresses us to do by His Spirit. We love our parents and want to honor them by doing what they taught us in our youth. What is so surprising about obeying God by keeping His commandments? The fact that one of them, the Sabbath, goes against all tradition for modern Christians shouldn't stop us. It was the Lord Himself who said some very disparaging things about tradition.

Mark 7:7 "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

Matthew 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8  This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Bible Prophecy Tells Us....

that there would be an attempt to change God's law, and that men would try to take the place of God.

that men would attempt to replace God's holy day (Sabbath) with the first day of the week

that the day God set aside for a holy use would be forgotten by most people in the latter days.

Daniel 7:25 "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time."

2 Thessalonians 2: 3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Revelation 13:1  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2  And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3  And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4  And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5  And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months."

Some sincere Christians believe that God created the world, but he did it using the evolutionary process (theistic evolution). The evolutionary theory, based on the non-existence of God, proposes that all that exists in the universe happened by chance — the stars and planets, and everything in the cosmos and on the earth, are the result of an unexplainable accident. There is no purpose or design to the world. There is no reason for our existence. It is a philosophy called Nihilism which believes that nothing matters. It states that there was no higher Being which called the world into existence, and therefore there are no values in life, and all attempts to discover values or meaning are pointless.

In his popular, made-for-television series, Carl Sagan stated that life began somewhere in a primordial slime pond. But let’s think about that for a moment. Even the slime on a pond is living. In fact, in any pond in the world if you take one drop of water from that pond and put it under a microscope, you will discover that every drop of water in that pond is teaming with life. Christians believe the Bible says it all when it states, “In the beginning God. . .” In the New Testament we read: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men” (John 1:1-4). The origin of life is God. Our lives are not the result of chance or accident, our lives originated in the heart of a personal God.

These facts were copied from a science web site that tells us about just how intricately balanced life on earth is: “The Earth is in an exact position so that the average temperature is balanced between the freezing point of water (32 degrees F) and the normal body temperature of humans (98.6 degrees F). If the average temperature ever varied very far above or below these two extremes for very long, we could not survive. Scientists estimate that if the Earth were just 5% closer to the Sun, the increase in the temperature would be enough to melt the ice caps at the North and South poles. The water trapped in these caps of ice would raise the oceans level by as much as 300 feet. That would be enough to put every coastal city in the world under water. The moon rotates only once every 29 ½ days instead of daily. Because of it’s slow rotation one side of the moon gets very hot while the other gets very cold. If the Earth didn’t rotate every 24 hours, but rotated every 36 hours, the temperature at noon would be well over 100 degrees fahrenheit and the temperature at midnight would drop below freezing even in summer. We would also have daily tornadoes, and storms due to the temperature changes stirred up by the wind.” The earth exists in an extremely delicate balance. Something, or someone, is maintaining that balance. If it is a Someone then there is a purpose for our existence.

Intricate Balance of Life

Brennan Manning also describes the intricate balance of life: “Sir James Jeans, the famous British astronomer, once said, ‘The universe appears to have been designed by a Pure Mathematician. . . .’ The slant of the earth, for example tilted at an angle of 23 degrees, produces our seasons. Scientists tell us that if the earth had not been tilted exactly as it is, vapors from the oceans would move both north and south, piling up continents of ice.”

For Dr. Paul Brand, a leading surgeon, it means standing in worshipful awe as he studies the human body. He was explaining one of the many wonders of human physiology to someone when he said, “And do you know about the ductus arteriosus? A bypass vessel, it routes blood directly to a developing fetus’s extremities, instead of to the lungs. At the moment of birth, suddenly all blood must pass through the lungs to receive oxygen because now the baby is breathing air. In a flash, a flap descends like a curtain, deflecting the blood flow, and a muscle constricts the ductus arteriosus. After performing that one act, the muscle gradually dissolves and gets absorbed by the rest of the body. Without this spit-second adjustment, the baby could never survive outside the womb.” What a miracle life is!

Dr. George Wald, Nobel Prize winner of Harvard University, states it as cryptically and honestly as an evolutionist can: "One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet here we are - as a result, I believe, of spontaneous generation." Scientific American, August, 1954.

CONCLUSION

God is. He made the Sabbath day for us to recognize His place as Creator and Redeemer. When we deny the Sabbath we are denying His Lordship over our lives.
