Glen Burnie Health Fair 2005

  The 9th Annual Healthy Choices Health Fair will be held at the Glen Burnie Seventh-day Adventist Church on April 3rd, 2005, beginning at 9 AM. We are planning a full health fair, not just a run. The 10K Run is being eliminated this year. More family activities and health talks are being planned. Dr. Jason Leber, C.S.C.S., from the Glen Burnie Yalich Clinic will give a talk on preventing sports injuries. The Arthritis Foundation and Hospice of the Chesapeake will have information. There will also be blood pressure and cholesterol screening. There will be father/son and mother/daughter relay races and sprints as well! Health Fair FREE to public. PARKING FOR ALL EVENTS IS IN PARKING LOT ONE QUARTER MILE EAST OF CHURCH ON AQUAHART ROAD GOING TOWARD HARUNDALE MALL NEAR THE FINISH LINE (near Brewster's Ice Cream stand). See map for details.

  Entry fees for 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and 5K Run are as follows:

  • $15 pre-registered (by March 29th)
  • $12 Seniors (over 55)
  • $20 race day
  • $10 Under 12 yrs
  • Health Fair FREE

  There will be a 5K run as well as a 1 Mile Fun/Run Walk beginning at 9 am. Registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 am on Sunday, April 3rd. Sign-up sheets for Smoking Cessation classes, Vegetarian Cooking classes, Stress Management classes, and Family Budgeting classes will be available.

  Tentative Schedule of Events:

  • 7:30 am Begin Registration
  • 8:30 am Registration Closes
  • 9 am 5K and 1 Mile Fun/Run Walk Begin
  • 10:15 am Awards Presentation
  • 10:30 am Health Fair and Family Fun and Games Begin

  Note: Health Fair and Family Activities are free but we wish you would purchase a T-shirt by filling out the registration form and just write "Games" on the registration and send it in along with your money.

  Dr. Leber, a Chiropractor and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the Yalich Clinic Rehabilitation and Performance Center, will give a seminar after the run/walk on how to prepare for athletic exercise. Some of the topics are:

  • Proper Equipment – Shoes, Clothes, etc...
  • Necessary Stretches – Pre and Post Activity
  • How to start exercise safely! What pace?
  • How to recognize common injuries and treatment
Dr. Leber is a Chiropractor and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the Yalich Clinic Rehabilitation and Performance Center located at the new Crain Health Park. The Yalich Clinic Chiropractors are the Official Chiropractic providers for the Baltimore Ravens, Univ. of Maryland Terrapins, Bowie BaySox baseball and UMBC.   Another participant is Hospice of the Chesapeake. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for those in our communities experiencing advanced illness or bereavement through hospice and other palliative care, compassionate support and education.

  The proceeds from the event will help our Community Services Center feed the homeless in the Glen Burnie area. The course runs directly to the scenic Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, and continues south along the trail to the respective turnaround points.

  Participants may be from any age or ability group. We concentrate on having fun, and emphasize the healthy aspects of being outdoors in a positive, Christian environment. Age groups are 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.
