Eat RightWe should eat to live and not live to eat.Experts say the two biggest things someone can do to reduce weight is to start exercising and reduce table portions. These simple behavioral changes may be simple in concept but as a practical matter they can be difficult. Recent reports in news magazines indicate that about 1/3 of all American adults are overweight. We have come a long way from our roots in an agrarian economy. It is possible now for people to live their entire lives without seeing an ear of corn or a string bean being grown. The effort involved in growing crops is a thing of the past for most people. We buy cans off the shelf and go to a supermarket for fresh vegetables. Modern technology and conveniences allow us to be lazy. Gone are the times when a husband had to hunt for food every day and the wife had to cook every day from scratch. Nutrition guidelines are not hard to find. In fact, there is no shortage of diets to help you lose weight. However, which diet is best? When considering the fact that God made us, it would be well for us to look at His design in Genesis 1:29,30 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. The first diet was vegetarian. We could not improve on what God gave us. The United States Dairy Association (USDA) and The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommend the Food Guide Pyramid as a dietary guide. It plainly states that the meat food group should NOT be where we obtain the most nutrients. Laws of Life

The Sabbath was hallowed at creation. As ordained for man, it had its origin when "the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy." Job 38:7. Desire of Ages, P. 281.
