Our mission is one of the youngest of the Union of Central Africa. It covers the territory of the Gabon Republic. Gabon obtained its independence since 1960 and more exactly on August 17. The political situation of the Republic is stable as well as the economic situation. Libreville is the political capital and Port-Gentil the economic capital. Gabon has nine provinces: Estuaire, Woleu-Ntem, Haut-Ogooué, Moyen-Ogooué, Ogooué-Lolo, Ogooué-Ivindo, Ogooué-Maritime, Ngounié, Nyanga. The population of the Gabon is estimated at 1.250.000 inhabitants with a surface of 266 667km ². This cosmopolitan country abounds among others: Nigerian, Ghanaian, Togolese, Cameroonian, French, Senegalese, Morrocan, Lebanese, etc. who give rhythm to the active life.
The main resources of the Gabon are wood, manganese and petroleum.
As elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa, the Gabonese cities are chilly from others and know difficulties of connections by ground ways; so, to visit the inside of the country is relatively difficult. The Adventist work began in the Gabon in 1976 and the first Gabonese to be baptized was in this same year. Since then, the number of the national increased considerably. The Gabonese, very friendly and welcoming population, remain however very attached to the heathen and traditional religion (bwuiti, njembe…).
The evangelization in the Gabon suffers from a real lack of staffs to feed the new baptized. The visits of the seat of the mission inward of the country are very rare, firstly because of the high cost of the travels, and secondly because of the state of roads. We need the assistance of volunteers of Global Mission to feed and maintain the recently baptized members.
In Gabon, the education is operational on Saturdays; what prevents the young Adventists from worshiping in their ease. Worse still, tests of exams are scheduled this day. Consequently, one notes numerous academic failures amongst young Adventists; without forgetting exclusions bound to the absences added up every Saturday. There is a real and pressing need of Adventist secondary and elementary schools and school is imperative itself notably in Libreville, where lives near half of the members.
It is true that Gabon is a rich country but, it is sad to notice that this wealth is held only by about 5 % of the population against about 95 % which reach with difficulty a good medical care because of the cost. The population needs a sanitary education in touch with the prevention of diseases, particularly those ensuing from the bad nutrition and from the alcohol consumption. Without forgetting that the education in AIDS prevention is the most urgent. At present, we are building an medical center in Libreville which will serve some of the population.
The flat of the staffs of the mission is a serious problem here because of the high cost of the rent. The mission does not yet has its own structures of flat. All the ministers, since President to the Ministers, as well as the local staffs, live rented and this blocks a big part of the budget of Gabon Mission. If flats were given to the workers, more money would be saved and reinvested in the evangelization or other activities.
Towards all which precedes, we shall wish of all those who, by going through this site, feel sorry and wish to help, partially or totally, the Gabon Mission to mitigate these above-mentioned obstacles, to manifest itself via the here on our site. Furthermore, your moral support will be largely appreciated.
While we wait and hope in The Jesus-Christ) return,
" Please , draw your force from the union with the Lord, from his immense power " (Eph. 6 10)
