ELECTRONIC PERIODICALS FOR

YOUTH WORKERS, YOUNG ADULTS, AND TEENS

-by A. Allan Martin

Electronic communication has become a common, economical, and efficient way to keep in touch with the many youth workers and young people entering cyberspace. North American Division Youth/Young Adult Ministries (NADYM) has jumped onto the information highway, facilitating a variety of electronic periodicals (ezines) and networks for youth work and young people.

XYZ

The simple goals of the monthly ezine, XYZ, are (1) X: to deliver the latest Generation X information, (2) Y: to provide networking and resourcing for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, and (3) Z: to cost youth workers next to nothing (zero). XYZ is a collaborated, compiled resource. The content of this ezine is generated purely by submissions and notices sent in from the frontlines of youth ministry. XYZ is distributed to the Adventist Youth Ministry Network (AYMN), a collection of Adventist youth workers around the world who are online. To date, over 375 youth workers are part of AYMN, and the number is growing. XYZ is also uploaded into the youth ministry library section in CompuServe's Adventists Online Forum B, where over 5000 forum members have free access to XYZ. To receive XYZ, be included in AYMN, or to submit articles/information to this ezine, contact A. Allan Martin.

the Cat/a/lyst

The Cat/a/lyst is a young adult online ezine mainly for members of CompuServe's Adventist Online Forum. It features satire, columns, entertainment reviews, stories, concert/event information, and thread excerpts of special interest to forum young adults. The Cat/a/lyst serves as a type of Generation X sounding board, with all of its content coming from online young adults. Edgy, at times sarcastic, this Xer ezine doesn't hesitate to poke fun. The Cat/a/lyst strives to be an agent that induces or provokes significant change. It can be downloaded from the Young Adult library section in forum a. To submit articles or information to the Cat/a/lyst, contact A. Allan Martin.

Teens for Christ (TFC) Newsletter

With over 120 members, Teens for Christ (TFC) is a growing online youth club sponsored by NADYM. With their own officers and sponsors, TFC is one of the most active groups in the Adventist Online Forum. TFC members fill the Teen Talk message boards and library section with lively teen chat and exhibit enthusiastic cyber relationships for fun and friendship. They regularly host their own online conferences and periodically publish their own newsletter. The TFC Newsletter consists of features written by teens. Matt Thoza, Valinda Lee, and Amy Janssen currently serve as the editorial staff. The TFC Newsletter can be downloaded from the Teen Talk library section in forum a. To submit articles or information to TFC, contact A. Allan Martin.
