Decatur Seventh-day Adventist Church has started a new and relatively unheard of ministry, a small health center called Wellness Secrets. The inspiration for this practical, natural methods healing clinic, is not new, however for over 150 years Ellen White urged all Adventists to learn how to do medical missionary work. One day, she prophesied, medical missionary work would be the only avenue to reach people with God’s gospel message. A few years ago, a couple came to Decatur to do Bible work in the area. They also had training in medical missionary work such as hydrotherapy (water treatments), massage, proper nutrition and lifestyle education. They stayed one year and trained the church members to use simple remedies to treat several diseases including cancer and sugar diabetes. God performed miracles through the use of natural methods. One cancer patient, in particular, had two months to live. He took treatments of hydrotherapy and massage and slowly his body healed. He also changed his diet and entire lifestyle, and by God’s grace he is still alive and well today. Witnessing these types of impossible healings, the Decatur church members determined to continue the medical missionary work after the Bible Workers left. A number of miracles followed: God impressed one individual to look at buying the property Wellness Secrets now sits on. They saw a bright light highlighting the For Sale sign. The building needed to be raised 2 feet to make the basement useful for seminars, and God provided a skilled gentleman who volunteered to help. God brought together a team of five people from all over the world. This team has a variety of talents that compliment each other nicely. The team includes Kae Borrero,-R.N., LMT and Director of Wellness Secrets; Doug, LMT, and Tamara Schoch; and Rodney and Julie Bowes-Rodney pastors Decatur SDA Church and is a Bible Worker. The building was open with no walls and unusable for a clinic—it used to be a plumbing store, but God led the building committee to come up with a workable design. After a lot of work, the many workers finished. Now it houses a hydrotherapy department and massage room as well as a health consultation room, seminar room and a small health food store. Wellness Secrets had its Grand Opening on Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Several Adventists and non-Adventists came and enjoyed free chair massages, blood pressure checks and carob-covered raisins as well as learned about the center and signed up for health consultations. Wellness Secrets’ main goal is to reach souls for Jesus by following all of God’s counsel, particularly His call to do medical missionary work. Counsels on Health says, "I can see in the Lord's providences that the medical missionary work is to be a great entering wedge, whereby the diseased soul may be reached" (535). Currently, Wellness Secrets is involved with several Bible Studies throughout the week. They put on regular seminars such as a monthly cooking school, weight loss classes, and smoking cessation and stress management classes. They have also been going door-to-door in Decatur passing out Ministry of Healing books, a Wellness Secrets brochure and a health-interest survey. Several Bible Studies have been started from these surveys. Many church members are involved with the various ministries as well as volunteering at the store. Moral is high and each volunteer is seeking and desiring unity for God’s people in His church. Wellness Secrets also just finished a ¼ mile walking trail around the property that is open to the community and has been enjoyed by several people already. Through Wellness Secrets, Decatur Church hopes to inspire other Adventists around the world to take the step to start small health centers in their area. Truly "with God all things are possible." "The word of God in his law is binding upon every intelligent mind. The truth for this time, the third angel's message, is to be proclaimed with a loud voice, meaning with increasing power, as we approach the great final test. This test must come to the churches in connection with the true medical missionary work, a work that has the great Physician to dictate and preside in all it comprehends" (The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, 1710). From the Team at Wellness Secrets and Decatur SDA Church, "Please visit us anytime!" |
