The Little School that could
"Located at the edge of Davenport, the "little school that could" is turning out successful students, one by one. The Seventh-day Adventist School, 4444 W. Kimberly Road, has a track record of educating youngsters for success. Head teacher, Grace Jackson, a native of Honduras, said the private school offers students a personal touch while staying closly connected to the child's family. The school has 25-28 students in preschool through eighth grade. Karen Roebuck teaches preschool and kindergarten in half of the school, while Jackson teaches the rest of the students in a multi grade classroom setting. Two Davenport churches are affiliated with the school: Kimberly Seventh-day Adventist Church next to the school and Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church 1318 Fillmore. Mrs. Jackson said the students entering the school needing remedial work have caught up with other students on their grade level. The key, she said, is changing the students' perspectives of learning. It doesn't happen over night. Most of the students who graduate from this school enter a public high school and operate above their grade levels." The above was quoted from the Quad City Times staff writer Deirdre Cox Baker.
Mrs. Jackson has been a widow for 10 years and has dedicated the rest of her life to the children. She takes pride in the schools up to date textbooks and shows off the five new computers that the children are using.
