US DOLLARS PLEDGED FOR FUNDING ADVENTIST TV STATION IN
CAYMAN George Town, Grand Cayman - The membership of the Cayman Islands Mission of Seventh-day Adventists made pledges amounting to US$80,000 for the establishment of an all religious TV Station in concert with Three Broadcasting Network (3ABN) during convention '96 which featured Elder Danny and Linda Shelton, President and Vice President of 3-ABN January 26-28, 1996. The convention commenced on January 26 at the George Town Seventh-day Adventist Church under the theme "United in Christ 96."In fact, the Hon. John McLean, Minister of Agriculture, Environment, Communications and Works commended the Adventists community for taking this bold evangelistic initiative. Moreover, Elder Danny Shelton inspired the membership with his singing and dramatic verbal report of hundreds converted to Jesus Christ through the medium of 3ABN. More importantly, the Cayman Islands Mission has received approval in principle from the Government of the Cayman Islands for the establishment of a VHF TV station which will be headquartered at Television Centre Building. In fact, West Star Communications Company (the local cable TV company on the island) is fifty one percent owned by Mrs. Mary Thompson, a Seventh-day Adventist. This company will provide all of the technical assistance for the new station which will be a down link of 3ABN in the first phase. During the second phase local programming will commence. Other church officials attending the convention included Pastor M. E. Weir, Communications Director of West Indies Union and Pastor C. S. Plummer, Sabbath School Director of West Indies Union. Three Angels Broadcasting Network is a 24 hour Christian Television Network. It began in 1984 and today has a potential audience of 24 million viewers. Programming focuses on topics that meet special viewers needs, such as stop smoking clinics and drug alcohol recovery programmes. There is also a toll-free prayer and pastoral counseling line each month. The network is and independent, non-profit, supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. |
