Today I woke up to sunlight bright,
So different from the dark of night.
Now that's not strange,
For God often will arrange
That sunlight bright
Follows the deepest hues of night.
But what captured my sight
Were bands of delight,
Two columns of rainbow light
Rising as sentinels, shining and bright.
Today, right now, there is no rain
No dark clouds above, no pressing pain.
Why God's promise when all is clear
Is to drive away my fear.
On another day that may be dark,
The bright sun hidden, everything stark;
That God sends ahead His promise true?
"I will forever be with you."
Whether in sunlight or dark of night
He walks with us and trains us right.
To follow His leading, to sing His song,
And invite others to come along.
Treasure up the light today
And let the Lord lead each step of the way.
