Berea SDA Church

About us

Our church had humble beginings based on the foundation of the desire to spread the Gospel to the African American community in Boston. In 1912 these efforts resulted the foundation of the second Seventh Day Adventist Church. In 1916 under the leadership of Pastor Charles Yearwood the church was blessed to become the birthplace of Adventist religion in Boston, located in a single family home converted to a place of worship located on Cabot Street.

Berea Church worked, worshiped and grew there until the arrival of Pastor Herbert D. Greene in 1923. During his term the church was able to purchase its first building located on Shamwut Avenue and in 1928 began the initial sponsorship of the Berea School. The church continued to grow.

In 1958 Pastor Thaddeus D. Wilson began the work of finding the church a new home to accommodate its mission and its growth. In 1959 Pastor Eugene Carter took up Pastor Wilson's mantle and guided the church to its present location here at 108 Seaver Street. In 1964 Russel T. Wilson revived Pastor Thaddeus Wilson's vision for the church by spearheading a magnificent renovation project of the sanctuary.

Under various leaders from then until now Berea has continued to grow and give birth to new churches. The Franco-Hatian Church, known as Temple-Salem, the Spanish Bethel Church, The Cambridge Church, The Gethsemene Church in Brockton, The Mattapan Church, The Roxbury Church and the Real Truth Mission.
