History of the Karen Hill Tribe People
| During the 1940-45 war in Asia, the Karen tribe worked with the Allies, fighting along the border of Thailand. They were overcome by the Japanese, and punished strongly by the Japanese when the British withdrew from Burma. However they were engaged in the fighting again when the British returned, just prior to the end of the war. Again the Karen people strongly supported the British. When treaties were signed, some how the Karen were not mentioned on the documents between the Burmese and the British. From this point onward, the Burmese have tried to displace the Karen group, forcing them to a narrow strip of land along the border. Some 50+ years later, the fighting continues today. |

Our History
In 2000, a young student of Chiang Mai Academy suggested that a working party of students should go to build a Global Mission church in Bong Ti. Twelve young people traveled to the area, assisting local village men building by day, and undertaking evangelism programs by night. Amongst this group was a New Zealand missionary teacher, Catherine Riley-Bryan.
Later that year after resigning from the Thailand Adventist Mission services, she returned to Bong Ti to live. In the first year a dormitory-kitchen-classroom block was built from bamboo. The next year a classroom block was developed, then a library, Every year the students have learnt building skills from the expansion.
