HISTORY AND PLANS
A Revelation Seminar
conducted in the Summer of 1983 in the
town of Jourdanton, Texas
by members of the Highland Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church of San
Antonio
resulted in six people being baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist
Church.
That led to a desire for a Seventh-day Adventist church to be
located
in this previously "dark" county of Atascosa.
The Atascosa First Seventh-day Adventist was first
offically
organized on October 1, 1983 with 17 charter members. The members
first
started the church by renting a place to worship in Jourdanton, and
later
rented space in Pleasanton, Texas.
As the membership increased, the need for a larger
and
permanent home for the church developed. In 1991, a building fund
was
started with the donation of the estate of Dorothy Salvatierra to the
church.
In
1997, the members were able to purchase a piece of property in
Poteet, Texas and it bcame their
goal to eventually move the church into a permanent building there.
With God's blessings, buildings were found at
a
reduced rate in the early part of 2001 that were purchased and moved
onto
the property. In April of 2001, renovations began on the
buildings
that now are home to the Atascosa First Seventh-day Adventist church.
The
grand opening celebration took place on August 4, 2001. On June
9,
2002 a permanent sign was installed beside the church.
Believing that helping those in need in our
community is very important, plans now include adding a Community
Services Building to improve the distribtion of free used clothing to
families who need a helping hand in the surrounding areas.
IF THE LORD IMPRESSES YOU TO DONATE
TOWARDS THIS COMMUNITY SERVICE BUILDING, YOU MAY SEND YOUR DONATION
