DANIEL PROPHECY STUDY #23:
Exhibit 1

GOD'S
IDENTIFYING MARKS

  1. It must arise after 1798.
A Church group emerged in the mid-nineteenth century, among people of various religious persuasions who attempted to come back to the pure faith of the Bible. It did not invent new truth, but simply sought to restore all the lost and neglected truths that had been preserved by the wilderness church throughout the Dark Ages.
  2. It must keep all the commandments of God, including the seventh-day Sabbath on Saturday.
This is not a new truth, but a truth that was taught by Jesus, the apostles and by the church in the wilderness, a truth finally to be recaptured and proclaimed again by the remnant.
  3. It must have the spirit of prophecy. (see lesson 25).
  4. It must preach the three angel's messages of Revelation 14:6-12.
There is no other church that proclaims the beginning of the judgment in 1844. This group is not afraid to proclaim the fall of spiritual Babylon, and to warn people against the mark of the beast.
  5. It must be a gospel-centered movement.
As you have studied in this Daniel Prophecy series you have found the gospel of Jesus to be the basic foundation of the bible. The doctrine of righteousness and sanctification by faith in Jesus alone is the very heart and center of this groups faith. The truth of the Sabbath, for example, is a precious, Christ-centered truth because it leads the individual believer to deepen his person relationship with Jesus by spending time with him.
  6. It must be a truly international, worldwide organization.
Today this church is proclaiming God's message in just about every country of the earth. Less that 10% of its nearly ten million members live in the United States where it originated. It is truly an international movement.

What is the name of this church group which fulfills all six of the remnant requirements?

Seventh-day Adventist

(The story of the beginning of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is found in Lesson 24).
