"For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth."

Angel Co-Op Newsletter
Dear Sister,
I'm a little later in getting the
newsletter out today-- Ed's sister, Brigitte, is visiting, and since we
connect in the flesh rarely, I have set aside some of the time I usually
spend on the computer to spend visiting. But she and Ed are now off to
the healing waters of the mineral springs at the Watrous pool, so, here
I am!

The weekend paper has an interesting
Commentary on its religion page. Ed and I don't watch TV, but I hear a
lot about the popular shows and media surprises in the lunchroom at
work. Naturally I have heard about Janet Jackson's half-time peepshow
at the Super Bowl.
I do listen to CBC radio enroute to work,
and home again, so I am also familiar with the U.S. Congress's proposed
bill to ban eight 'bad words' from the air.
Richard N. Ostling, writing for the
Associated Press, suggests that even Church groups have neglected to
express alarm by the frequent inappropriate use of the three-letter word
"once allowed only in carefully reverent contexts but now regularly
exploited: God."
Personally, I cringe inwardly when I hear
four-year old girls intoning, "ohmygawd" and feel disturbed by the
Lord's name taken in vain by adults. Do I say anything? How do you
feel about this issue? What do you do?

I had supper last week with my dear
friend and former colleague, Jacquie. Jacquie is now
living and working happily in Calgary, although she professes to miss
lots of things about Saskatoon (no, not the weather).
We chatted like crazy over our tandoori
chicken and chick pea masala, catching up on each other's lives. When
we walked out to the cars, Jacquie stated in parting that she would be
praying for a particular concern I had brought up. Imagine my amazement
the next day when we had a definite answer to this same prayer that Ed
and I have been agonizing over and lifting up to God for months! Praise
God! (Jacquie's mom is recovering from a messy surgery, so I would ask
you to pray for her speedy recovery please.)

I finished reading and reviewed a book
last week, Protecting the Gift:Keeping
Children and Teenagers Safe (and Parents Sane) that
many of you may already have read (it was published in 1999). Parents,
grandparents and teachers will benefit from the information and
reassurances about protecting children and teens.
