Dear Sister,
I hope you felt loved yesterday, one
of the most successful commercial marketing days of the year,
Valentine's Day. I am so happy that because of God's unfathomable love,
we can feel loved every day of the year.
February is Heart Month.
Perhaps some of you have a ministry that includes canvassing your city
for funds for such organizations as the Heart and Stroke Association.
They have an interesting site at
http://ww1.heartandstroke.ca/Page.asp?PageID=24 that
you might like to check out. One of their catchy headlines reads: "Fat
is the new tobacco, Foundation warns
The Heart and Stroke Foundation says excess weight is now one of
the greatest public health threats Canadians have ever faced." Health
reformers like Dr. Hans Diehl have been preaching this for years. (Go
to
http://www.sdachip.org/ for more
information.) I had quite an enthusiastic response by email to last
week's report that our Church was going to be training to run the
C.H.I.P program in our community. Bev Miller, who some
of you will know as the founder of Seventh-Day Adventist Women of the
Web http://www.sdawomen.org/ ,
wrote to tell about the wonderful success their Willowdale, Ontario
Church has had in holding CHIP programs. She writes:
I am the Regional Coordinator for CHIP in
Ontario, and I can surely testify of God's leading with regard to this
wonderful lifestyle education program. In fact, I'm just in the midst
of planning Willowdale Church's third CHIP program, happening April
5-29. In 2000 the Willowdale Church held the first CHIP program in
the Greater Toronto Area. I attended that program and was so inspired
(I was just returning to university - mature student! - to study
towards becoming a dietician) that I simply had to get involved in
CHIP as a director for my church. Well, now I'm the Regional
Coordinator, and I travel about to our various Ontario churches
introducing them to CHIP and providing informal training! What a joy
it is to be involved in helping to further God's health message! Back
in 2000, there was only one church facilitating CHIP. Now there are 8
churches in Ontario that will be facilitating programs this year.
Praise the Lord!
What I absolutely love about CHIP is that
it's not man-made. The CHIP principles are the same fundamentals of
health that God provided to the young Adventist church more than 100
years ago. All that CHIP does is corroborate those God-given
fundamentals with current scientific research and package them in a
wonderful 16-evening experience.
Another thing I love about CHIP is the
opportunity to meet wonderful new friends for Jesus! Last year, a
wonderful Hindu gentleman who had attended one of our 2002 programs
was baptized!!!!!!!!! I can't describe to you our joy!!!! And, the
joy that we as facilitators all feel when the participants finish the
program and share their stories of triumph -- well, there's no greater
reward for our volunteer efforts..... If I can be of any assistance
to you in your CHIP quest, please do let me know!!! I'll be happy to
help in whatever way I can.
Oh, one last thing. In 2002 The GC North
American Division Health Department gave CHIP the opportunity to be
the editors of the GC's monthly health newsletter, "HealthWorks". All
our CHIP personnel were busy, so the opportunity fell to me.
I am very pleased to have another example of
heart-felt ministry from Ontario to share with you. Donna
Jackson, wife to the President of the Canadian SDA
Conference, and Ontario's Family and Women's Ministries Director, has
written a very inspiring piece that appeared in February's
Messenger. You can read it by clicking on>>>
I hope that those of you (in Saskatchewan) who are
planning to come to the WM Retreat at the Radisson in
Saskatoon, realize that the deadline for registrations is
February 25, 2004. If funding is an impediment to your being there to
worship and fellowship, please contact Vera Wiebe about the WARM fund
which is set aside for this purpose. If you yourself do not/cannot
attend, you may know of a young single mom or a work-weary career
woman who would like to go but who can't afford it. Perhaps you would
like to help make that possible with a donation to your local Women's
Ministries account, or to the WARM fund. Hope to see you there!!
Have a wonderful week, all!
In Christ,
Cynthia.
