Dear Sister,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It is my prayer for 2004 that each of you will blessed with a richer knowledge of your God and Saviour, and that you will feel his presence in your every minute.  All the other "stuff" of life will fall into place when you whole-heartedly seek this precious Kingdom-experience!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know about you, but the beginning of every New Year finds me excited by the avalanche of "motivational" material pouring into my email inbox.  Carlamae Ashby has kindly passed along notes of things she found particularly striking from the ALL POWER seminar that she and her husband attended.  Perhaps you will have an opportunity to attend an ALL POWER seminar yourself.  Check it out at http://www.allpowerseminar.com/  Here is a sample of what Carla shared:
"We all need to experience the truly awesome POWER of God.  “I (God) am come that they (we) might have life, and that they (we) might have it more abundantly!”

Matthew 6:13  for thine is the kingdom, and the POWER…

Matthew 10:1  And when He had called unto him His twelve disciples, He gave them POWER….

2 Tim. 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of POWER….

Luke 10:19  Behold, I give unto you POWER…

Ephesians 6:10  be strong in the Lord, and in the POWER of His might.

John 1:12  But as many as received Him, to them gave He POWER….

2 Corinthians 12:9  that the POWER of Christ may rest upon me.

1 Corinthians 4:20  For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in POWER.

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the POWER of God…

 Seminar # 1:  Introduction

To succeed you need to accept responsibility for your own life.

5 Steps to begin achieving success: 1.  Decide to follow God and Bible Principles

                                                      2.  Decide what you want out of life in every area.

                                                      3.  Take specific actions to achieve your purpose and goals

                                                      4.  Monitor your results consistently

                                                      5.  Be adaptable, make necessary changes and role model

Proverbs 16:3  “Commit your work to the Lord, then it will succeed.”  (Thanks so much Carlamae!)

Potluck Wisdom:  Here are a few tidbits gleaned from a 'motivational' email newsletter I receive:

* When you "ladder" your bonds, you buy them in such a way that in every year of your retirement, you will have a certain number coming into maturity.

* When you invest in local properties, you understand the market. You don't have to be a real-estate genius to get a sense of whether a particular neighborhood in your town is appreciating or depreciating.

* Make a list of all the people who could give your career a boost -- and send a short note to one or two of them every month. In each note, mention something the person has done that you genuinely admire . . . and end with some sort of effort to establish contact. The goal for the year is to come up with at least 12 smart, helpful people that you can count on for help or advice when you need it.

* Goethe said that the perfect day is one that includes (1) contemplating a work of art, (2) carefully reading a poem, and (3) engaging in good conversation.

* (1) Think "What more can I give?" as opposed to "What more can I get?"; (2) focus on opportunities, not problems; (3) listen first, talk later; (4) criticize only when you can do so lovingly; (5) resist the temptation to gossip; (6) do good for your customers . . . so they will repay you with their loyalty; (7) be loyal; (8) be grateful; (9) complain about nothing; and (10) be kind to those you love and kind, too, to those you don't.

* A researcher, who has been studying the common cold for 16 years, claims that people who don't get colds usually have happy, relaxed, extroverted personalities.

* Lottery winners are often a sorry lot. More than 90% use up their winnings within 10 years. Some go through their money in weeks or months.

* Hobbies you might like to try in 2004: (1) listening to good music; (2) writing and/or reading poetry; (3) creating and/or studying art; (4) studying and practicing a foreign language; (5) keeping a journal; (6) learning to enjoy fine food; (7) collecting something that interests you; (8) taking photographs; (9) writing your family history; (10) learning to dance and/or sing better; (11) practicing a musical instrument; and (12) tending a garden

Thanks to all those who prayed for the success of the World Youth Mission Conference in Thailand in December and January.  Ed and I looked after Thinh Thinh's children (with lots of help and support from other Church family and others like "Teacher Myrna", I might add) and she said the experience was "perfect"-- she said that she felt the presence of God every day.   Her initial feelings of fear and inadequacy were quickly expunged when she realized she was being "used" by God in ways that were familiar to her (working with children who reminded her of her own children; speaking the language of many people she came across; introducing people she knew, like the Thai pastor who baptized her 13 years ago, to her Canadian colleagues).  She looks forward to doing this again someday-- but with her children along.

Have a great week everyone!  Hope those who are doing "The Purpose-Driven Life" devotional are finding it inspiring!

God bless, Cynthia.
