Angel Co-Op Newsletter Dear Sister, As I compose this letter to you today, I am listening to the silken (but powerful) tones of Alpha Mora Rombaoa, a singer with It Is Written's Harmony Singers. Sister Rombaoa lives in Canada but has a Philippine background. Since our son's "friend" Malyn came into our lives, I am interested in knowing more about the Philippines, and its peoples. Phil is going to visit there for several months in the New Year. I will likely keep you posted (I hope not ad nauseum-please let me know if that is the case...hehehehe). Like many of you, I am still drawn to the "peacemaker" sites on the Internet, even though our marches and rallies of a year ago had little to no effect on war maker policies. Please pray for Valerie Lagua (click on ). I draw your attention to a startling audio slide show documenting some of the situations faced by women in Iraq today. They also need our fervent prayers: Many of you will know of Tony Campolo, the evangelical (Baptist) sociologist who is frequently heard on Christian radio and the popular speakers' trail. I appreciated his article in the Adventist magazine, Spectrum. In a chapel address on the Beatitudes at Loma Linda University, he makes the following thought-provoking comments: (You'll want to read the whole article to get this excerpt in context): "Do you know why I'm upset with you Seventh-day Adventists? Because over the years you were the most countercultural group that ever came down the pike. You didn't even worship on the right day! You stood up for the righteousness of Jesus. But little by little, the affluence that has pervaded this community has seduced you into a mindset that makes me wonder whether your allegiance is more to America than to the kingdom of God. " . . . The Seventh-day Adventist community more than any other community is aware of how the church was seduced by Constantine into a value system that stands over and against biblical Christianity. You should understand it more than any other denomination on the face of America. But you've become just like the rest of us. You look Baptist to me."
