Angel Co-Op Newsletter Dear Sister, My African sisters and brothers will be shaking their heads again this morning: the sun is shining, the sky is blue, but it is pretty cold out there! My husband headed out the door to the Fieldhouse, Saskatoon's indoor track. For sure there will be die-hard joggers along the Meewasin trail, men with icicles in their beards and others with only their eyes showing between toque and muffler. We are a strange breed! But cold as it is here, weather-wise, it is home, and most Saskatonians are warm in our houses and workplaces and cars. It is easy to forget our blessings as people of affluence in a country of affluence. I would like to refer you to Joelle's recent account of her mother's ministry to the less fortunate. While we are grousing about the shopper-crowded stores and the other less attractive elements of this season, we would do well to turn that energy towards providing for the poor: food for the Church hampers, a shift at the food bank, serving dinner at the Sally Anne...... There are quite a number of e-card sites available. My current favourite is a Christian site called Day Spring. Check it out by clicking on http://www.dayspring.com/ecards/ I draw your attention to a couple of new prayer requests at Angel Co-op. Thank you for ministering in this important way: click to read Today Ed and I have been invited to a reception for a local pioneer in the area of parent support and education. In May this year she received the Alfred Adler Award for Lifetime Achievement. Her name is Ethel Quiring and she is definitely one of my role models. Who are your role models? We will parade some of these honour-worthy people in coming newsletters. Yesterday after Church we went to see our friend, Tom (the father of Megan, Techie Angel). He received the gift of a liver about a month ago at Edmonton's University Hospital. We praise God and rejoice with his family-- he is recovering well. I join Megan in thanking you for your prayers and to remind you to fill out and submit your organ donor cards! Congratulations to Ruth Ann, whom I supervised when she did a practicum in my Agency-- she has just landed her first fulltime, permanent job as a social worker. And on Thursday night I had supper with another former practicum student who is heading off to work in England as a social worker for six months-- Bon Chance, Christina! And my son's girlfriend, Malyn, is busily ensconced in case work management in Manila, the Philippines-- her email yesterday said that she had received some pertinent new training in dealing with children who have been sexually violated. Honestly, there are times when I feel a little ground down by my work, but then God encourages me with all this youthful enthusiasm!!!! For those of you who have been receiving the daily devotionals "Reflection on The Body," I want to remind you that we will be finishing up soon (actually, tomorrow) and in January we will begin a devotional called "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren. You will need to purchase the book for this particular devotional since my daily email will refer only to the specific daily questions for reflection. Please let me know if you have purchased the book and want to be on this email devotional list by contacting me at angelco_op@hotmail.com (many of you have done this already). If you would like to read the first chapter of the book on-line, you can do so by going to http://www.christianbookpreviews.com/christian-book-excerpt.php?isbn=0310205719 Have a wonderful week! Anyone who would like to share a testimonial of how God is working through your life to serve others (ministry), please send it along to me and we'll make sure it gets published on our site. Have you read all the inspiring testimonials we have posted so far? If not, have a feast by clicking on Women's Ministry Testimonials. Your sister in Christ, Cynthia
