"The Spirit of Ministry is the Spirit of Heaven, and with every effort to develop and encourage it, Angels will cooperate."

And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first.

Matthew 19: 29-30 RSV

Good Morning Sister!

With the attention to world epidemics like SARS, West Nile Disease, and Ebola, many of us will have lost sight of HIV/AIDS, the so-to-speak, Granddaddy of the Modern Plagues. There continue to be HIV/AIDS sufferers around the world, and opportunities for women to minister to them. Here is an example of what is going on with our ADRA organization in the African country of Togo:

A LITTLE EDUCATION BRINGS BIG CHANGES
-excerpted from Kaleidoscope Spring 2003
by Kay Bachhus-Kierstead

“Tonight ADRA was showing a video, and everybody wanted to be there. Dusk began to settle like a gentle mist. Worried about my disappearance and wellbeing, my translator found me as the children and I wound our way past some village huts toward the clearing.

Most of the locals and some from neighboring villages had turned up to see this presentation. Many people in this part of the world have never seen a projected film, so this was very exciting. Using a portable video projector, the ADRA teacher explained the different problems that could be encountered if a person had multiple sexual partners. A short introductory comedy was shown to entertain the crowd and get them warmed up to the real serious message about staying faithful to a marriage partner and the dangers of pre-marital and extra-marital sex. It was wonderful to see the amount of attention people were giving to the presentation.

As complete darkness enveloped the village, I tried to absorb the impact ADRA had made on these people. Thanks to ADRA, there is an increased awareness among the population about the spread and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The villagers have also learned how to properly care for AIDS victims. They have a better understanding of how to protect themselves against the virus….

In the overall context of fighting AIDS, ADRA Togo and ADRA Canada are doing awareness campaigns in a minimum of 70 villages in the Maritime Region of Togo. It is amazing to see what a little education can change. Thanks to your support, ADRA is indeed making a difference, an incredible difference… one life at a time.”
