Adventist Adoption and Family Services offers a wide range of services for birth parents. The following list is simply the main services we offer. Should your situation be unique and your need not be listed, please contact us and we will discuss a way to assist you.
- Provide pregnancy counseling to assist birth parent in dealing with the issues of the pregnancy.
- Assist birth parent in arranging medical services. Medical services will be paid by adopting couple following adoptive placement if birth parent has no insurance or other means of medical pre-payment.
- Assist birth parent in arranging housing appropriate for her situation. Birth parent is responsible for board and room fees unless an alternate plan has been arranged with agency staff.
- Assist birth parent in pregnancy planning and permanent planning for infant.
- Assist in arranging round-trip transportation from birth parent's home area to temporary residence prior to birth. The agency may elect to issue prepaid ticket with the understanding this transportation will be reimbursed if birth parent decides against adoptive placement.
- Assist birth parent in assessing the options available regarding planning for the infant's future.
- Provide family information on prospective parents should the birth parent decide to place the infant.
- Assist birth parent in working through emotional problems with family and other support systems.
- Make arrangements for the necessary legal services for parental relinquishment. If court appearance is required, agency worker will be present if desired.
- Make arrangements for transfer of the infant from hospital to temporary or permanent home as arranged in permanent plan for the infant.
- Provide contact with the birth parent (and the birth parent's family as appropriate) as to medical and situational status.
- Assist birth parent in arranging support services such as WIC, prenatal public services, birthing information, and other support services.
- Maintain appropriate social, medical, and legal records to facilitate birth parent's plan.
- Assist the birth parent in putting together a plan to fit that parent's individual needs.
