Making friends to win souls
Research shows that most people won to the Adventist Church already have Adventist friends. Almost no one is won through "cold turkey" evangelism. Jesus prayed we would be "in the world" (John 17:11). And that's what we have to do. We have to be in the world, deliberately making friends of people in the world. And as they discover what we are like, they realise we are like we are because we are like God. The more they like us, the more they like God -- who made us like we are. However, we have to keep alert to the other half of Jesus' prayer. We are not to be "of the world" (John 17:14). It's no use befriending people for evangelism and becoming like them. That's not you winning them. It's them winning you. When you make friends with non-Christians as a form of evangelism, the most important thing is to be a Christian at all times.
