News Writing Guidelines
The adventist.fm news service is written by Seventh-day Adventists from
anywhere in the world.
- All news items for this news service should be about the
Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Stories should generally be no more than 100 words long.
- Try to keep all sentences to 20 words or less.
- Try to summarise the story in the first sentence.
- Select stories that will interest people over a wide area. People from
a dozen countries may read your story. So stories here need to be of interest
to more than just your local church.
- We do not run stories critical of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, its
members, or its administrators. Similarly, we do not carry news stories
critical of other denominations.
- Avoid giving your opinion in your article. Give the facts and let the
very facts themselves be what forms your readers' opinions.
- If you are in doubt about a particular detail, leave it out of your story.
It's better to have a shorter story that's accurate than a longer story that
may contain a mistake.
- Do not type all capital letters. It is too hard to read.
- Articles should be in English, but you can use the spelling common
in your part of the world.
- Keep your headline less than 30 letters long. Type it in lower case. And
type it last -- because that usually makes it easier to write a good headline.
- If you make minor variations from these guidelines, we will still generally
run your story. However, we reserve the right to withhold any story from
public display.
- If you are in doubt about your writing ability or whether a news story
is suitable, you could
email it to us so we can edit it for you. We will then display it
here on your behalf.
THANK YOU FOR WRITING STORIES FOR THIS NEWS SERVICE.
