Talking to himself about pastors |
This was an editorial in the South Queensland Conference Camp daily
newsletter.
Our pastor makes a lot of mistakes, the one-eyed editor said to himself. Have you heard the latest one?
No, Praise the Lord.
Are you praising the Lord because you hadn't heard, or because he made a mistake?
Both, he told himself.
Why would you say Praise the Lord because the pastor made a mistake?
Ellen White said it's often better to make a wrong decision than no decision at all.
But this guy makes lots of mistakes, he blurted to himself.
Praise the Lord, he replied.
You think it's good that he makes so many mistakes?
The more mistakes he makes the better, he told himself.
You're not making sense.
It makes a lot more sense than publicising his mistakes.
But I'm a journalist, that's my job.
I'm a Christian. My job is to "cover a multitude of sins."
But why is it good that the pastor makes a lot of mistakes?
Let's say that for every 100 decisions, the pastor makes one mistake. A pastor who doesn't do much might only make one mistake. But a pastor who makes 1000 decisions will make ten mistakes.
Exactly. And our pastor makes a lot of mistakes.
For every ten mistakes the pastor makes, he told himself, that's 990 right choices! If he made one mistake, he'd only have made 99 right choices!
