From a series of editorials originally prepared for the
daily newsletter of South Queensland Conference Camp.

I am writing an article about keeping Sabbath at Camp, the one-eyed editor said to himself. I want 30-40 things people shouldn't do on Sabbath.

Wouldn't it be better to do an article on 30-40 things people can do on Sabbath? he asked himself.

Are you being negative about my article?

Are you being negative about the Sabbath?

There must be something that you think we shouldn't do on Sabbath.

Sure, we shouldn't do our secular work on Sabbath. That's the only Bible rule about what not to do on Sabbath.

But what about the verse that says don't do your own pleasure on My Holy Day? he asked himself.

That word "pleasure" actually means "business," he told himself.

So you are telling me the only thing you would put in my article is not to do secular business?

No. I wouldn't even write the article. A General Conference session was once asked to vote a set of rules about Sabbath. They also refused to do it.

But the Jews thought up 2000 rules. Can't you think of one?

Oh yes, I do have one. Don't do your secular work.

But that wouldn't make a good article about keeping Sabbath at Camp No one does their secular work here.

Maybe you shouldn't write it. Maybe I could write it instead. I could put things in it like family worship, prayer, nature walks, talking to each other about God....

I knew you were negative, the one-eyed editor interrupted. And off he went to interview someone else who would be as positive as himself about his negative Sabbath article.
