Years ago this was tested in an experiment for business efficiency.
Two groups of workers were given different rosters. One group worked six days and then had one day off. The other group worked seven days a week without any rest day.
The productivity of both groups was measured. Both produced the same output in a week.
So there is no loss of work output by keeping the Sabbath. If you give God the Sabbath day, He gives the time back to you in the next six days.
However, that is not all. Seventh-day Adventist men live an average of seven years longer than the average population. So for every ten days the average person lives, an Adventist lives eleven days.
Obviously, not all that increased lifespan is from keeping the Sabbath, but it clearly plays a part.
Thus, keeping the Sabbath gives us both short-term and long-term dividends:
Short-term: If you keep the next Sabbath, the following week your productivity should rise to compensate.
Long-term: If you keep all Sabbaths, you will live longer.
Ultra-long-term: If you keep all Sabbaths, you will get into practice for eternity. There week after week, we will all keep the Sabbath in a world without end (Isaiah 66:23).
